Banner Settings Affected by the IAB TCF framework

Starting March 12, 2026, CookieScript introduced an update related to the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF) 2.3.

If you enable IAB TCF 2.3 in:

CookieScript → Banner Settings → Frameworks → Enable IAB TCF 2.3

some banner settings will temporarily stop working.

This happens because the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF) requires specific banner elements and user choices to always be available.

To stay compliant with these rules, CookieScript automatically overrides certain banner settings when TCF is enabled.

What This Means

If one of your banner settings conflicts with TCF requirements:

  • your setting will be ignored while TCF is enabled

  • the banner will automatically follow the TCF-required behavior

  • you will see a warning message in the dashboard explaining that the setting is ignored because IAB TCF is enabled

Your settings are not deleted.

They are simply paused while TCF is active.

Example

  1. You disable the “Decline all” button in banner settings.

  2. Later, you enable IAB TCF 2.3.

Result:

  • The Decline all button will still appear on the banner.

  • Your setting will show a warning that it is ignored.

If you later disable IAB TCF again:

  • your original setting becomes active again

  • the Decline all button will be hidden, as you configured it before.

When IAB TCF 2.3 is enabled, the following settings/options will be overridden:

  1. Enable IAB TCF

  2. Consent mode

  3. Auto-Accept Cookies After Delay (seconds)

  4. Auto-accept on scroll

  5. Show banner only on the first page

  6. Auto-hide Cookie Banner

  7. Show cookie badge

  8. Cookie badge text

  9. Enable Consent Recording

  10. Privacy policy URL

  11. "Privacy policy" link text

  12. "Decline all" button title

  13. "Save and close" button title

  14. Banner title

  15. Banner description (first layer)

  16. IAB TCF Purposes tab name

  17. IAB TCF Features tab name

  18. IAB TCF Vendors tab name

  19. IAB TCF purposes explanation

  20. IAB TCF features explanation

  21. IAB TCF vendors explanation

If any of these settings conflict with TCF requirements, CookieScript will automatically apply the TCF-compliant version.

Why This Happens

The IAB Transparency & Consent Framework requires CMPs (Consent Management Platforms) to follow strict policies and technical specifications.

These rules ensure that users can:

  • easily accept consent

  • easily decline consent

  • see which vendors process their data

  • manage detailed consent choices

CookieScript must enforce these rules whenever TCF is enabled.
