High ignore rate of a cookie banner
Why do I get a high ignore rate of a cookie banner using CookieScript Analytics?
The Cookie Banner Analytics allows you to see all necessary user statistics and interactions with a cookie banner and cookie categories. You can track the accept, reject, and ignore rates of your cookie banners and see which cookie categories were selected and how often.
Some users may experience a high ignore rate of a cookie banner.
What could be the reasons for the high ignore rate of a cookie banner?
How to find the ignore rate of your cookie banner?
To check the ignore rate of your cookie banner, go to your CookieScript dashboard > Analytics > Accept/Reject Rates, and select USER-BASED CONSENT CHOICES AND NUMBER OF USERS WHO SAW THE COOKIE BANNER:
Note: The lower graphics (USER-BASED CONSENT CHOICES AND NUMBER OF USERS WHO SAW THE COOKIE BANNER) are more accurate since they show the real number of users who accepted or rejected the banner. The upper graphics (USER-BASED CONSENT CHOICES: ACCEPT, DECLINE, IGNORE RATES) show percentages.
For example, if a user visits your website and accepts or rejects the cookie banner, the event bannershown is counted as 1. The banner was shown and the user made a choice. If the user repeatedly visits a website and makes the same or a different choice, the user will not be counted as a new one: the number of users will remain the same but the number of interaction will increase. Thus, the two graphics could show different banner Accept or Reject rates.
The reasons for the high ignore rate of your cookie banner
There could be the following reasons for the high ignore rate of your cookie banner:
The ignore rate is often influenced by a couple of factors. One of the main contributors is bots that visit your site. These bots, such as those used for scanning purposes, do not interact with the banner, and this non-interaction is counted as the ignore rate.
The ignore rate can also be influenced by users who visit your site and see the banner but choose not to interact with it. If users ignore the banner and continue browsing the website without any selection on a banner, it will be counted as the ignore rate since the banner will be shown but ignored.
